Day 64– Sep 1, 2005, Thursday: Great intercession
It’s September! We leave for Africa in September! Wow! Only 20 more days. I am totally excited and yet it will be really tough to leave some of these great friends we have made. I pray that God brings us back together again over the years. We have been placed with some amazing people around us.
This morning we had a time of intercession for different places around the world. Intercession is basically praying for people, on behalf of them. Our little group of 10 was given an article that was less than 100 words long. The article was about the Indonesian government. They released 1400 Aceh rebels from prison as an act of peace to try to mend the situation there. We all felt almost no connection with this article or the situation, but we were obedient to pray for them. I was amazed at how God came through our prayers. Ruth was our ‘secretary’ and she could not keep up with writing as we all prayed for the Aceh rebels, the government, unity in Indonesia . We had several people get verses as we prayed. When I say get verses I mean that the verse reference popped into their head as we prayed and in faith they looked it up and read it. I got the verse 1 Peter 3:8. I was totally fearful to look it up. I was thinking how foolish I would feel when it talked about something silly and totally off of the topic. Then I read it. “Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing because you are called so that you may inherit a blessing” I couldn’t believe how truly appropriate it was for the prayer we were having. I really felt after I read this that God was telling me that someday I will know his Word well enough that he won’t have to tell me the verses. I will be in a situation and know the word that God wants to bring. I have to study it and make his Word my foundation. It was an awesome time for me….just because I obeyed and prayed for some people in Indonesia that I have never met.
Today was a tough day in the food department. I had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch and dinner.
We had amazing worship tonite at our all campus meeting. Just worshiping God with everything. It was great. We also sent off a family to Samoa. Sean Murphy and his family are going there to build up the DTS school there. They’ll be living in hut like things with only catchment water and outdoor toilets. They invited us to go help them out when we are done here. We are praying if God wants us to do it, but so far it doesn’t seem to be His plan.
