Day 38– Aug 6, 2005, Saturday: Scuba
Met with team in the morning for prayer. We had a great time just praying for what God wants and where he wants us to go.
Swam in pool.
We decided to go to the local dive shop (scuba) because they were having a sale today and thus had free hot dogs. We went there with the Bells. We all pounded a few hot dogs because hey, they’re free Then we hung out for a while and matthew, their 12 year old son said that he wanted to try scuba diving out. They have a really cool pool there that has a big window at the deep end like a fish tank. We stood there watching all the learning scuba divers and then someone said that it was FREE because of the big anniversary sale. “Now we’re talking…Free is good”. Matt’s dad Dave couldn’t go because he had an ear ache (I think he was scared), so me and matt went in to try it out. We had a great time. I was amazed at how little they taught us before we dove down. Actually all they did was tell us to get their attention if we were uncomfortable and down we went. We were under water for 10-15 minutes. It was really cool. Matt is now all excited and wants to get certified.
In the dive shop, Matt’s mum (not a typo, they call them mum’s in ausie land) won a kids snorkel set in the raffle. Since they already had the stuff, she let Jessika use it. I thought that Jess would freak out in the pool, but she was cruising all over with her mask and snorkel. It was awesome. She is becoming a little fish this summer. She can swim all the way across the pool by herself!
Later that night a girl, Sara, from our class offered to watch the kids. So ruth and I went for a walk and watched the sunset. It was nice to have a little time without kids.
Here's a photo of matt before the plunge.
